Die Ausstellung zeigt Kunstprojekte, die Handlungsstrategien und Szenarien zur Bewältigung der Krise poetisch und spielerische entwerfen und dient als Ort des Dialogs und der kritischen Reflexion.\n\nAls Ergebnis eines open calls wurden für die Ausstellung vier Künstler:innen (István Antal, Alex Iwanov, Shahrzad Nazarpour, Michaela Schwentner) und eine Architektin (Hannah Mucha) ausgewählt. Außerdem werden die Künstler:innen Ege Kökel, Alfredo Ledesma sowie Thomas Hörl & Peter Kozek die Ergebnisse ihrer kontinuierlichen Arbeitsprozesse in der Ausstellung zeigen.\n\nIn ihren facettenreichen Arbeiten befassen sich die teilnehmenden Künstler:innen mit komplexen und zugleich künstlerisch-symbolisch-poetisch überhöhten Themen rund um Macht, Machtmissbrauch und deren körperliche Auswirkungen (István Antal, Shahrzad Nazarpour), mit der Fragilität des beeinträchtigten Körpers in der Gesellschaft (Alex Iwanov), mit Aspekten des Verborgen-Seins der so essentiellen Sorgearbeit (Hannah Mucha) und des nicht-Sorge-Tragens in einer verlorenen Beziehung zur Natur (Michaela Schwentner).\n\nDarüber hinaus aber findet in allen Projekten ein Perspektivwechsel statt, durch den scheinbare Hoffnungslosigkeit in Schwung, Stärke und subtile Kraft transformiert werden. Das gemeinsame Tun als sinnlich-kreativer Arbeitsprozess (Ege Kökel) und das Öffnen der Sinne für eine symbiotische Wahrnehmung von Natur und Sorge (Alfredo Ledesma & Kolleg:innen) stehen im Fokus. Ebenso bei Thomas Hörl & Peter Kozek. Mit Hilfe von „SANDY“ backen sie die Träume der Sandleitner Nachbar:innen. Im Juli 2023 unterzeichnete Tunesien mit der EU eine Vereinbarung, die dem nordafrikanischen Staat, unter anderem, finanzielle und technische Unterstützung zur Verhinderung der Migration nach Europa zusicherte. Eine Maßnahme, die sich einreiht in die aktuelle Asyl- und Migrationspolitik der EU, wo Grenzen vorgelagert, zweifelhafte Deals mit Autokraten geschlossen und Entwicklungshilfen umgewidmet werden. So entstehen katastrophale Zustände für Menschen auf der Flucht, aber auch für Menschen vor Ort, die neokolonialen, wirtschaftlichen Bestrebungen ausgeliefert sind.\r\n\r\nNichtsdestotrotz machen sich Menschen auf den Weg nach Europa. Allerdings werden die Routen immer gefährlicher, die Boote unsicherer. Die Zahl der Toten im Mittelmeer ist horrend hoch.\r\n\r\n„Über euer scheiß Mittelmeer käm ich, wenn ich ein Turnschuh wär.“ (Liedtext der Band Die Goldenen Zitronen)\r\nDas Ausstellungsprojekt OFF YOUR SHOES verknüpft die Themenfelder Migration und Vertreibung, Geschichte von Arbeit und Protest in Tunesien sowie in Österreich - Schuhe sind dabei ein roter Faden.\r\n\r\nOFF YOUR SHOES heißt es, wenn Zufluchtsuchende an Bord eines Bootes gehen, aber auch im Ausstellungsraum - der Belhassen Handous während seiner Residency als erweiterter Wohnraum dient. Erst dann können Besucher*innen in die kollektiv gemachte Ausstellung eintauchen, Audio-Geschichten anhören, durch Grenzlandschaften wandern, in einer Videoarbeit dem Meerwasser lauschen und immer wieder über Schuhe stolpern.\r\n\r\nBelhassen Handous arbeitet für die Ausstellung mit analogen Fotos, ritzt Wege vom Migrant*innen aus Subsahara-Staaten in Film, und manipuliert im Internet gefundene Bilder, um poetische Landschaften zu schaffen. In einer Videoarbeit verbindet er Zeugnisse von Menschen auf der Flucht mit Aufnahmen des Mittelmeers, mit dem Rhythmus der Wellen.\r\n\r\nJoanna Pianka zeigt in der Ausstellung eine neue Serie von\r\nFotografien, die installativ in die Ausstellungsarchitektur integriert sind. Das durchgehende Motiv: im öffentlichen Raum aufgefundene Schuhe. Die Betrachter*innen sind mit der Frage konfrontiert, in was für einer Situation die Träger*innen ihre eigenen Schuhe draußen zurück lassen? Was für Geschichten können uns die Schuhe erzählen?\r\n\r\nTomash Schoiswohl erarbeitet Hörgeschichten, die einerseits Aspekte der aktuellen EU-Migrationspolitik aufgreifen, andererseits in Form von fiktiven Dialogen historischen Ereignissen, wie dem Aufstand der Schustergesellen im frühen 18. Jahrhundert, der Errichtung des Linienwalls oder der Hinrichtung von „Jacob Bock“ aus Angola nachgehen. Er zeigt dabei die unumgängliche Verbindung von Politik und Protest auf. Zudem schafft Tomash Schoiswohl Collagen aus ausgeschnittenen Zeitungsartikel, Zeitungsbildern und Zitaten - sie wandern in den öffentlichen Raum, versehen mit dem Schriftzug OFF YOUR SHOES.",

A delightful sort of game ermittelt Verhältnisse von künstlerischer Praxis und Lehre im 20. Jahrhundert, indem sie zwei Figuren auf besondere Weise in Dialog setzt. Im Zentrum der Zusammenstellung steht das druckgrafische Werk der Schweizer Künstlerin Lill Tschudi (1911–2004), das im Rahmen einer Kooperation der Angewandten mit der Graphischen Sammlung ETH Zürich erstmals in Österreich gezeigt wird. Die Wiener Schau erweitert diese monografische Perspektive, indem sie nach der Beziehung von Tschudis Arbeiten zu Beständen aus Kunstsammlung und Archiv fragt, die die Reformpädagogik des in Wien lehrende Künstler Franz Čižek (1865–1946) dokumentieren.\r\nTschudi und Čižek werden dafür als exemplarische künstlerische Positionen im Europa der Zwischen- und Nachkriegszeit betrachtet, in der sich Aspekte der angewandten und bildenden Kunst sowie von Abstraktion und Figuration gegenseitig durchdringen. Sowohl Tschudis künstlerische Arbeiten als auch Čižeks Pädagogik sind mit der Entwicklung des modernen Farbdrucks ebenso wie mit Reformtendenzen in Gesellschaft und Pädagogik und der Entdeckung der „Kunst der Kinder“ um 1900 verknüpft. Lill Tschudi studierte 1929 an der Londoner Grosvenor School of Modern Art bei dem britischen Künstler Claude Flight (1881–1955) Linolschnitt. Flight integrierte nach einer persönlichen Begegnung mit Čižek dessen Ansätze in den eigenen Unterricht. In der Einleitung seines 1934 erschienenen Buchs The Art and Craft of Lino Cutting and Printing, das er mit Linolschnitten von Kindern und Arbeiten seiner Studierenden gleichermaßen illustrierte, nennt er Čižeks Arbeitsweise als Vorbild für eine vom künstlerischen Tun von Kindern abgeleitete Suche nach Ausdruck und „emotionaler Organisation“. Čižeks Haltung und Arbeitsmethoden in seiner 1903 gegründeten und später in die Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule eingegliederte Jugendkunstklasse gewannen insbesondere im angloamerikanischen Raum früh an Ansehen; in zahlreichen internationalen Wanderausstellungen gingen Arbeiten seiner Schüler:innen auf Tournee. Die Klasse war darauf ausgerichtet, Kinder und Jugendliche in unterschiedlichsten Techniken und Materialien sowie in gemeinsamen Besprechungen selbsttägig die eigene kreativen Entfaltung zu ermöglichen.\r\n \r\nDie Ausstellung untersucht den neuen Status der künstlerischen Arbeit von Kindern als eigenständige, vorbildhafte und ausstellungswürdige Praxis und die Funktion vergleichsweise einfacher Techniken wie des Linolschnitts, wie sie in Čižeks und Flights Lehre sowie in Tschudis künstlerischer Praxis etabliert und genutzt wurden, in ihrem Verhältnis zu gesellschaftlichen Transformationen und künstlerischen Neuerungen. Neben der Relevanz publizierter Druckgrafiken für Tschudis Entwicklung – etwa jene von Norbertine Bresslern-Roth (1891–1978), deren Tierdarstellungen sie vermutlich über die Jugendrotkreuz-Zeitschrift kennenlernt – und dem Kontext der Wiener sozialdemokratischen Bildungsreform interessieren hier mögliche „stilistische Ansteckungen“ (Barbara Wittmann), Verwandtschaften und Übersetzungen, die der institutionellen Umgebung der Jugendkunstklasse geschuldet waren. Das Interesse Čižeks für sogenannte „Volkskunst“ oder die Druckgrafik der Wiener Werkstätte überschnitt sich beispielsweise mit einer von ihm angeregten eklektischen Auseinandersetzung mit zeitgenössischen Avantgardebewegungen wie dem Futurismus oder dem Kubismus, über die sich die Studierenden seiner Kurse für „Ornamentale Formenlehre“ Problemen von Bewegung, Raum und Zeitlichkeit näherten. The performance engages the 'sound object’ and indeed the archive on its own terms, and addresses the narratives, embodied experiences and land-based / oceanic networks of loss and life / death and living related to the colonial extraction and dispossession in the Majority World.\r\n\r\nZara Julius is an interdisciplinary artist, researcher and cultural worker based in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is also the founder of Pan-African creative research and cultural storytelling agency, KONJO. Her practice is informed by a working methodology of ‘rapture’, and is concerned with the relationship between performativity, frequency, concealment and fugitivity in the settler (post) colony, with a special focus on what we call the ‘Global South’. Working with sound, video, performance and image-based installation, Zara Julius’ practice involves the collection, selection, collage and creation of archives (real, imagined and embodied) through extensive research projects. She is especially engaged in thinking through the internal workings of the Black sonic, and how they might help us imagine new futures, and experience different present(s) in the face of various unfreedoms, as well as thinking through the carceral logics of the “ethnographic museum” and reimagining new lives for the material housed in these archives.\r\n \r\nZara holds a BA Hons in social anthropology from the University of Cape Town (2014) and a MAFA in Fine Art by Research and Practice from the University of the Witwatersrand (2021). Zara has exhibited her work across South Africa and internationally, including Simone Leigh's ‘Loophole of Retreat Venice’ (2022). She has been awarded artist residencies in Colombia, Denmark, Austria, South Africa, and most recently she was a guest resident at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in the Netherlands. Zara is currently a researcher and artist in residence as part of the Pressing Matter project at the National Museum of World Cultures (Netherlands) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. \r\nHer debut solo exhibition is currently on show at the Weltmuseum Wien April 2023 – April 2024.",

description: "Das Erbe der Welt und das UNESCO-Welterbe – Konservierung international\nIm Rahmen der Ausstellung Conservator at Work im Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab\n\nDie Erhaltung des kulturellen Erbes dieser Welt, sei es in Europa oder Asien, ist eine zentrale Aufgabe des Instituts für Konservierung und Restaurierung und seines UNESCO Lehrstuhls. 2004 begannen die internationalen Aktivitäten des Instituts mit dem FWF-Forschungs- und Restaurierprojekt in Nako, auf 4000 m Höhe im Himalaya. Von 2009 bis heute sind der Patan Durbar Square und der Königspalast, Teil des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbes Nepals, im Fokus von Forschung und Restaurierkampagnen, wie auch die ethnografischen Museen und ihre Sammlungsbestände von Kavaja und Kruja in Albanien nach dem verheerenden Erdbeben 2019.\nDissertationen und Forschungsprojekte zu Weltkulturerbestätten in Ephesus und Patan ermöglichen Grundlagenforschung zur Restauriergeschichte sowie die Entwicklung von Methoden und Konzepten zur Erhaltung dieser Kulturstätten. Wer sind die Menschen, die an diesem Verkehrsknotenpunkt das Brot backen? Wer entsorgt die Abfälle und reinigt die Böden, nachdem tausende Menschen diese täglich passiert haben? Wer kümmert sich an diesem sozialen Hotspot um Obdachlose* oder Drogenabhängige*? Bei Susi Rogenhofer werden die arbeitenden Menschen und deren Leistungen in das Rampenlicht gerückt und zelebriert. Auf mehreren Flächen im Außenraum des FLUCC werden diese sichtbar und hörbar gemacht. Bilder und Sounds der Arbeit werden in dem Werk Teil einer Inszenierung, die damit auch Einblicke in unterschiedliche Arbeits- und Produktionswelten bieten.\r\n\r\nBewegungen, Handgriffe, Arbeitsabläufe und Routinen werden dabei in audiovisuelle Kunst transformiert. Fraser untersucht die für unsere Welt bezeichnenden Ungleichheitsverhältnisse aus kritischer Perspektive, um Mittel zu entwerfen, sie zu verändern – etwa mit Blick auf den Sozialstaat, die multikulturelle Gesellschaft, Geschlechterverhältnisse, Demokratie und das Wirtschaftssystem.
