About this notebook
This notebook follows the examples on ggplot2's reference page for
label_bquote(), in the order the
page gives them. Each example shows ggplot2's code first and then Giggly's. An example Giggly
cannot draw yet keeps its ggplot2 code and names what it is waiting for, so the page is also a list
of what remains.
label_bquote() labels a facet's rows or columns with one of R's plotmath expressions,
mathematical notation in which a column written .(column) is replaced by its value in each
panel. Giggly has none of it yet: Giggly.Plot.facet_grid/2 takes no labeller option, and Giggly
has no labellers and no plotmath.
Expressions in the strips
alpha ^ .(vs) draws the Greek letter α raised to the power of the panel's vs, 0 or 1.
# The variables mentioned in the plotmath expression must be
# backquoted and referred to by their names.
p <- ggplot(mtcars, aes(wt, mpg)) + geom_point()
p + facet_grid(vs ~ ., labeller = label_bquote(alpha ^ .(vs)))
p + facet_grid(. ~ vs, labeller = label_bquote(cols = .(vs) ^ .(vs)))
p + facet_grid(. ~ vs + am, labeller = label_bquote(cols = .(am) ^ .(vs)))
Not in Giggly yet: facet_grid()'s labeller option, label_bquote() and R's plotmath
expressions.
